Summer Maintenance Tips for BYD Electric Vehicle Owners

Time: 2025-04-17 Hits: 0
As the summer heat approaches, BYD electric vehicle owners need to take extra care to ensure their cars run smoothly and safely. The following maintenance tips can help extend the lifespan of your vehicle and enhance its performance during the hot season.
1. Battery Care
  • Avoid Overheating: High temperatures can accelerate battery degradation. Whenever possible, park your BYD EV in a shaded area or use a carport. If you need to park in the sun, consider using a windshield sunshade to reduce the heat inside the vehicle, which indirectly helps keep the battery cooler.
  • Optimal Charging Time: It's advisable to charge your vehicle either early in the morning or late in the evening when the ambient temperature is lower. Avoid charging immediately after a long drive when the battery is still hot. Let it cool down for a while first.
  • Regular Battery Checks: Periodically check the battery status through the vehicle's onboard system or the BYD app. Look for any signs of abnormal battery health, such as a significant decrease in range or longer charging times. If you notice any issues, consult a BYD service center promptly.
2. Tire Maintenance
  • Proper Inflation: Heat causes air in tires to expand. Check your tire pressure regularly and ensure it's at the recommended level specified in your vehicle's manual. Under - inflated tires can increase rolling resistance, reducing your vehicle's efficiency and range, while over - inflated tires can be a safety hazard.
  • Tire Rotation: Summer is a good time to rotate your tires. This helps ensure even wear and tear, which can extend the life of your tires. Most BYD models should have their tires rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 kilometers.
  • Tread Depth Inspection: Inspect the tread depth of your tires. Adequate tread is crucial for good traction, especially during sudden stops or when driving on wet roads. If the tread depth is less than the recommended minimum, it's time to replace your tires.
3. Air Conditioning System
  • Regular Cleaning: The air conditioning system in your BYD EV needs to be cleaned regularly. This includes the air filters. A dirty air filter can reduce the efficiency of the AC system and even affect the air quality inside the vehicle. You can either clean the filter yourself (if it's washable) or have it replaced at a BYD service center.
  • AC Function Check: Before the peak of summer, test the air conditioning system to make sure it's working properly. Check for cold air output, proper fan speed adjustment, and any unusual noises. If there are issues, get them fixed as soon as possible to avoid discomfort during hot drives.
4. Body and Exterior Care
  • Washing and Waxing: Summer is a great time to keep your BYD EV clean. Regularly wash the vehicle to remove dirt, dust, and bird droppings, which can damage the paint over time. Apply a coat of wax to protect the paint from the sun's harmful UV rays, which can cause fading.
  • Check Wiper Blades: With the possibility of sudden summer showers, it's essential to have functional wiper blades. Inspect the wiper blades for any signs of wear, such as streaking or skipping. Replace them if necessary to ensure clear visibility during rain.
5. Safety Checks
  • Brake System: The heat can put additional stress on the brake system. Check the brake fluid level and its condition. If the fluid looks dirty or has a low level, have it replaced. Also, listen for any unusual noises when applying the brakes. Squealing or grinding sounds could indicate a problem with the brake pads or rotors.
  • Lights: Ensure all the lights on your vehicle, including headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals, are working properly. This is especially important for safety during summer evenings or in case of sudden rainstorms.
By following these maintenance tips, BYD electric vehicle owners can enjoy a worry - free summer driving experience, while also protecting their investment in their eco - friendly vehicles.
