BYD launches three new models in South Africa
On April 3, 2025, BYD held a new product launch in South Africa to officially launch three heavyweight models - BYD SHARK, Song PLUS DM-i and Sealion 07EV. These three models cover two major technical routes: plug-in hybrid and pure electric, fully meeting the green travel needs of different consumers, and also marking the further improvement of BYD's product layout in the South African market.
Among the three models released this time, BYDSHARK and Song PLUS DM-i- are equipped with BYD's leading super hybrid technology, marking the first appearance of BYD's plug-in hybrid models in the South African market; the Sea Lion 07EV is BYD's fourth pure electric model launched in South Africa, continuing the brand's technological advantages in the fields of electrification and intelligence.
BYD SHARK is the brand's first new energy pickup truck launched in South Africa. It is built on the DMO super hybrid off-road platform, combining luxury comfort with powerful power performance, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. At the same time, the DMO platform effectively improves the pain points of high fuel consumption and high emissions of traditional pickup trucks, truly achieving a balance between high performance and low energy consumption: redefining the new standard for new energy pickup trucks.
Song PLUS DM-i will become an ideal green travel choice for South African family users with its ultra-long battery life and excellent power economy. The model is available in two versions: front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive version has a comprehensive operating range of up to 1,080 kilometers (WLTP), which greatly reduces the frequency of charging or refueling and meets the diversified needs of users for long-distance travel.
The Sealion 07EV has become the representative of high-end smart SUVs in the South African market with its stronger pure electric performance, more advanced technology configuration and more luxurious space experience. This model is equipped with a 23,000rpm ultra-high-speed motor, and the fastest acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is only 4.5 seconds. The 82.56kWh blade battery adopts a CTB battery body integrated design, with a range of up to 482 kilometers under WLTP conditions and supports 150kW fast charging technology. The spacious and comfortable cabin space and 500L trunk volume, coupled with a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system, create a luxurious travel experience.
At present, BYD has set up 8 showrooms in South Africa, and the three new models will be sold in the showrooms simultaneously.
